#Groups 2(a) and 2 (b): Students can combine group 2(b) History of Art with any subject from Group 2 (a) in First Year only. Students can only study one subject from Group (2a) and 2 (b) in Second and Third Year.
*Groups 6(a) and 6(b): From second year:
All students are guaranteed their four subject choices, provided any prerequisites are met.
Changes to First Year subjects will be allowed, provided subject prerequisites are met, up to four weeks after the start of Semester 1, i.e. until Friday, 2 October 2015. The on-line facility for making changes to subjects will only be open for the first two weeks of Semester 1, i.e. until Friday, 18 September 2015. Subsequent changes up until Friday, 2nd October 2015 must be processed manually through the Student Records and Examinations Office, West Wing, UCC. Changes for FETAC and Mature students and any other student not presenting with a Leaving Certificate must be processed manually through the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences Office, G31, O'Rahilly Building. Change of Subject Forms are available here.
Full details of regulations governing Examinations for each programme will be contained in the Marks and Standards 2016 Book, and for each module in the Book of Modules, 2015/2016.
Students must pass the First University Examination in Arts within three academic years from the date of first registration for First Year. Failure to comply with this rule means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, but only for very serious reasons.
No student may register for Second or Third Arts until he/she has passed the First University Examination in Arts, or the Second University Examination in Arts, as appropriate. The selection of any module is conditional on the Professor or Lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that a student is capable of profiting by attendance thereat. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.
There are three kinds of BA (Hons): Single Subject, Major Subject and Joint Subject.
The BA (Hons) (Single Subject) programme involves studying two subjects at honours level in both Second and Third Arts. Students should note that there may be minimum credit requirements for entry into some postgraduate programmes. Students must check such minimum requirements with individual departments.
Entry into Second Arts requires: (i) passing First Arts, and (ii) meeting any subject entry requirements (see Table 2).
Entry into Third Arts depends on passing the Second Arts Examination overall.
In each of Second and Third Arts, modules amounting to 60 credits will be studied, with 50 credits in one subject and 10 credits in the other to make up a Single Subject Degree.
The BA (Hons) (Major Subject) programme involves studying two subjects at honours level in both Second and Third Arts. Students should note that there may be minimum credit requirements for entry into some postgraduate programmes. Students must check such minimum requirements with individual departments.
Entry into Second Arts requires: (i) passing First Arts, and (ii) meeting any subject entry requirements (see Table 2).
Entry into Third Arts depends on passing the Second Arts Examination in both subjects.
In each of Second and Third Arts, modules amounting to 60 credits will be studied, with 40 credits in one subject and 20 credits in the other to make up a Major Subject Degree.
The BA (Hons) (Joint Subject) programme involves studying two subjects at honours level in both Second and Third Arts.
Entry into Second Arts requires: (i) passing First Arts, and (ii) meeting any subject entry requirements (see Table 2).
Entry into Third Arts depends on passing the Second Arts Examination in both subjects.
In each of Second and Third Arts, modules amounting to 60 credits will be studied, 30 credits in each of the two subjects, to make up a Joint Subject Degree.
Table 2 outlines the range of subject combinations available for the three degree pathways. Notes on selection of subjects along with individual subject entry requirements are also provided in the table.
Students wishing to register a change of module must do so via the Student Portal or at the Student Records and Examinations Office no later than two weeks after the start of each Semester, i.e. by Friday, 18 September 2015 (Semester 1) or Friday, 22 January 2016 (Semester 2). Semester 1 modules cannot be changed in Semester 2. No changes in registration will be allowed after these deadlines.
Full details of regulations governing Examinations for each programme will be contained in the Marks and Standards 2016 Book, and for each module in the Book of Modules, 2015/2016.
Students must pass the Second and Third Arts Examinations within three academic years from the date of first registration for Second and Third Arts as appropriate. Failure to comply with this rule means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences only for very serious reasons.
