BT YOUNG SCIENTIST AND TECHNOLOGY FIRST YEAR SCHOLARSHIP
The University will offer, annually, a Special First Year Scholarship(s) to overall BT Young Scientist Competition winner(s) to the value of the student contribution and capitation fee.
The scholarship will be awarded to the overall first prize winner(s) (either an individual winner or each member of a winning team) of the BT Young Scientist and Technology Competition, independent of the year in which the award was received. To be eligible for a scholarship the recipient(s) must have secured a place on a full-time undergraduate course within a College in the University and must be validly registered for the first year of the programme.
If a scholarship holder withdraws from the programme for which s/he has registered or fails to continue throughout the year to meet the attendance and other requirements for the programme, including examination entry, s/he may be required to repay to the College the whole or part of the scholarship.
There are no application procedures other than informing the Head of College*, in writing, on or before the first day of term, that a place has been secured in one of the degree programmes in that College, and providing evidence of the Young Scientist and Technology Competition award.
Successful students(s) will be notified directly by the College.

AN COMHALTAS CEOLTÓIRÍ ÉIREANN SCHOLARSHIPS
Two scholarships of €381 each are awarded annually to
Irish traditional musicians who wish to study music in the first year of the BA
(Hons) Arts-Music Degree at University College Cork.
Candidates must (a) display a high degree of practical ability in
traditional music performance on one or more of the principal traditional
instruments and (b) satisfy the normal requirements of the Music Department.
The award shall be made by the Academic Board on the recommendation
of the Head of the Music Department and the person within the Music Department
with responsibility for Irish traditional music.
Selected candidates are interviewed and assessed for the Scholarships
in October of their year of entry to University College Cork.
GAA (MUNSTER COUNCIL) SPORTS BURSARIES
The Bursaries will be awarded each year to persons (a) who have reached a very high level of performance in their sporting event (b) who will be attending UCC in 2018/19 and (c) be a member of a GAA Club/Unit in one of the six Munster counties, either in a playing or administrative capacity.
The Bursaries shall be called GAA (Munster Council) Bursaries.
It is expected that candidates for the Bursaries will have applied in the usual manner to the Central Application Office for admission to the University.
The annual value of each Bursary is €750.
A person to whom a Bursary is awarded must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of the programme which he/she intends to enter.
Renewal of a Bursary is dependent on the maintenance of a satisfactory academic and athletic standard throughout the duration of the programme and reapplication.
A candidate may compete for other Scholarships or grants offered for entry to the University provided that in every case he/she satisfies the regulations governing the award but no student is allowed to hold two scholarships simultaneously.
Monies will be allocated in two stages during the year.
An adjudicating panel consisting of at least three persons nominated by the President will include two nominees of the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association.
The final decision on the award of a Bursary rests with University College Cork and Munster Council GAA.
KAVANAGH CELTIC CIVILISATION ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Two scholarships of €250 each are awarded annually to incoming first year students who are registered for 15 credits of Celtic Civilisation, based on their overall performance in the Leaving Certificate exam.
The Scholarships are tenable only in University College Cork, for the first year of a full-time primary degree programme at University College Cork in the session following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based.
Scholarships shall be awarded in order of merit in accordance with the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results as set out under regulations for admission in the University Calendar.
If the holder of a Kavanagh Celtic Civilisation Entrance Scholarship withdraws from the programme for which they have registered or fails to continue throughout the year to meet the attendance and other requirements for the programme including examination entry, they may be required to repay to the University the whole or part of the scholarship.
No application form is required for the Kavanagh Celtic Civilisation Entrance scholarships. Successful students will be notified directly.
KELIHER SCHOLARSHIPS
One or more scholarships equivalent in value to Category A
Grant, under the Higher Education Grant Scheme, are awarded annually in order
of merit to eligible candidates who attain Entrance Scholarships standard in
the Leaving Certificate Examination. Recipients who are also holders of Higher
Education Grants will receive a Scholarship of €1,710 subject to the rules
relating to the renewal of the Scholarship.
Each candidate (a) must have been born, or be the child of a parent
who was born, in the county or city of Cork or Limerick; (b) must be a
Catholic; and (c) must prove, to the satisfaction of the President, that
without such financial assistance he/she would be unable to avail of, or to
continue to avail of, university education.
A special form of application for a Keliher Scholarship, which is
obtainable from the Student Records and Examinations Office, University College
Cork, must be properly filled up by each candidate, and lodged with the Student
Records and Examinations Office not later than 5.00 p.m. on 24 August 2018. In
no circumstances can a late application be accepted.
The Keliher Scholarship will be awarded on the results of the
eligible candidates in the Leaving Certificate Examination. It is tenable only in UCC, for the First Year of a full-time primary degree programme in the session following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based. The basis for an
award will be order of merit in accordance with the standard UCC scoring system
as set out under regulations for admission in the University Calendar.
Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt at the
same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted. Any award made is at the discretion of the Trustees.
A candidate must not have attained the age of 20 years before 1st
July in the year of his/her candidature.
A successful candidate must satisfy the minimum entry requirements of
the National University of Ireland, and must pursue in University College Cork,
approved programmes leading to a degree in one of the following Colleges: Arts,
Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Science, Engineering and
Food Science.
A Keliher Scholarship will be renewed for each year of the primary
degree programme, provided the holder obtains the equivalent of a high honours
standard at the preceding university or sessional examination. It will be
renewed for a postgraduate programme only if the scholar has displayed
exceptional ability and conspicuous diligence and has obtained the equivalent
of an honours degree.
If a holder fails to obtain the equivalent of a satisfactory honours
standard at the university or sessional examination, he/she will forfeit the
scholarship. On the recommendation of the President, however, he/she may be
granted a Keliher Bursary of lesser amount than the scholarship.
QUERCUS ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Sixty Quercus Entrance Scholarships of up to €2,000 each, tenable in any College of the University, are offered for competition on the basis of results in the Irish Leaving Certificate Examination. The Scholarships are tenable only in University College Cork, for the First Year of a full-time primary degree programme at University College Cork in the session following the Leaving Certificate Examination on which the award is based.
In any one year, no more than fifteen Quercus Entrance Scholarships will be awarded in relation to any one of the Colleges as follows: Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences; Business and Law; Medicine and Health; Science, Engineering and Food Science.
To be eligible to receive a scholarship a student must have met the normal entry requirements for the degree programme in question and have been validly registered for same. A student who has previously registered for a programme leading to a degree in any third level college shall not be eligible for the award of an Entrance Scholarship.
Scholarships shall be awarded in order of merit in accordance with the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results as set out under regulations for admission in the University Calendar. Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted. In the event of a tie it may be necessary to award a reduced Scholarship to some candidates.
In the case of CAO applicants to Medicine the scholarship fund for the programme will be divided between:
1. all those on maximum LCE score (625 points);
and
2. The top scoring five students based on their combined LCE and HPAT score.
Students who achieve the standard in both the Leaving Certificate and combined Leaving Certificate and HPAT will be counted once only. Students who are awarded scholarships in this category must also satisfy the general conditions for the Quercus Entrance Scholarships.
If the holder of a Quercus Entrance Scholarship withdraws from the programme for which they have registered or fails to continue throughout the year to meet the attendance and other requirements for the programme including examination entry, they may be required to repay to the University the whole or part of the scholarship.
No application form is required for Quercus Entrance Scholarships. Successful students will be notified directly.
Scholarships ranging in value from €500 to €2000 each are awarded annually.
Candidates will be required to possess the appropriate academic qualifications needed for admission or be full-time registered students at University College Cork.
Scholarships will be awarded to candidates who have reached a very high level of performance in their chosen sport or have the potential to do so.
Renewal of the Scholarship is dependent on the maintenance of a satisfactory academic and athletic standard throughout the duration of the programme.
Money will be paid out in two stages.
To monitor level of fitness the recipients of a Scholarship will be required to undergo a series of physiological tests.
Regular reports will be necessary to ensure that satisfactory progress is being achieved both by the recipient and the club coach.
The recipients of a Scholarship must make themselves available for selection on University teams. Exceptions may be made if the standard of the competition in which the University team is participating would impede rather than assist progress. However, availability for intervarsity competitions would be compulsory.
Recipients will be required to maintain a satisfactory academic standard throughout the duration of the Scholarship and to display at all times an appropriate standard of conduct and sportsmanshi.
Recipients will be required to make themselves available to the Department of Sport & Physical Activity where and when requested – up to a maximum of three times a year.
There will be an adjudicating panel of five nominated by the President.

STRATEGIC SKILLS ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Students who were unsuccessful in being awarded the standard Entrance Scholarships may be considered for these awards.
COLLEGE OF ARTS, CELTIC STUDIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES
Mary Ryan Scholarships
The College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences will offer up to five scholarships of €5,000 each for incoming students on 500+ points who are not also in receipt of another University Scholarship, provided they register for at least two languages from French, German, Italian, Hispanic Studies and Chinese Studies (Mandarin).*
The Head of College shall have discretion regarding the number of awards to be made in any year.
Scholarships shall be awarded in order of merit in accordance with the standard UCC scoring system for Leaving Certificate results, as set out under regulations for admission in the University Calendar. Only performance in the six best subjects taken at the first attempt at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be counted.
The €5,000 will be allocated as follows: €2,000 in First Arts, and €1,500 in each of Second and Third Arts, with provision for funding in Fourth Arts if students follow one of the study abroad pathways.
No application form is required for the Mary Ryan Language Scholarship. Successful students will be notified directly.
*The Mary Ryan Language Scholarship will be offered to qualifying students ahead of the Quercus Entrance Scholarships. Students who accept the Mary Ryan Scholarship do so on the basis that they will be exempt from the monetary award associated with the UCC Quercus Entrance Scholarship, but will hold the title of Quercus Entrance Scholar.
*Holders of the Mary Ryan Language Scholarship, who subsequently are offered, and accept, a Quercus Talented Student Programme Scholarship in any given year, will retain the title of Mary Ryan Language Scholar but forfeit the monetary award associated with the Mary Ryan Scholarship award.
THE TONY BURKE/ST. MICHAEL'S CREDIT UNION BURSARY (NOT ON OFFER)
St Michael's Credit Union Blackrock has offered, funded by a donation
from the Burke family, the above Entrance Bursary to be awarded annually for
five years. The Bursary will be awarded under the following conditions:
The award will be called 'The Tony Burke/St. Michael's Credit Union
Memorial Bursary.
The recipient of the Bursary must be a member or child of a member of
St. Michael's Credit Union, Blackrock, Cork.
One Bursary, value €1000, will be offered for competition on the
basis of the highest aggregate results achieved in the following combination of
subjects: Irish, Geography and Mathematics in the Leaving Certificate
Examination.
Students must have achieved a minimum of a grade H4 in Honours Irish
in the Leaving Certificate Examination.
The Bursary is tenable only in University College Cork and shall be
used exclusively for the purpose of pursuing at UCC a BA Degree in which either
of the subjects Irish, Geography or Mathematics is a major subject.
The Bursary will be advertised by St Michael's Credit Union and the
applicants details will be forwarded to the Student Records and Examinations
Office, University College Cork for selection of recipient.
The Bursary will be awarded in the session following the Leaving
Certificate Examination results on which the award is based. Only performance
in the first attempt at the same sitting of the Leaving Certificate will be
considered.
PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS AND GRANTS
Distribution of Grant cheques is made in the Finance Office which is
situated in the North Wing of the main University building. Grants are
distributed in three instalments - the first one during the First Semester,
the second one after the Christmas Recess and the third one after the
Easter Recess. Scholarships are paid in two instalments, in the First and
Second Semesters and are posted out to the student's home address.
Notices are displayed on the University notice boards when cheques are
available for collection. Students are required to attend in person and to
produce their student identity cards when collecting their Grants.
