College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences

School of Applied Psychology
As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development, (CPD), approved candidates may take one-off modules and be provided with a transcript of marks.

Entry Requirements:
To be considered, applicants should normally have an undergraduate degree in Medicine. Applicants must be registered with the Irish Medical Council and must provide proof of this registration and a birth certificate or valid passport in order to register.

Students may take the following modules (subject to availability):

As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development, (CPD), candidates who satisfy the programme eligibility criteria may, subject to the approval of the Programme Coordinator, be permitted to take individual modules and will be eligible to register for examinations in the internationally recognised DITALS certification.

Entry Requirements:
To be considered, applicants should normally have an undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification.

LLM (Practitioner)
In advance of registration for the degree candidates who satisfy the entry requirements may opt to take individual LLM modules on a non-degree occasional basis from those on offer in the programme. These candidates will be identified as intending to proceed to the LLM (Practitioner) and a Learning Agreement will be entered into to provide a bridge to the degree. (This can be a flexible agreement and modified as necessary as the candidate proceeds). As part of UCC’s commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), candidates opting not to continue with the degree will be provided with a relevant transcript of marks.

College of Science, Engineering and Food Science

Programmes in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science
MSc (Biomedical Sciences)
As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development, (CPD), approved candidates from the Biomedical Science professions may take one-off modules and be provided with a relevant transcript of marks. Candidates would receive credit for modules taken as CPD should they subsequently register for the full MSc Degree in Biomedical Sciences.

MEngSc (Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering)
Candidates who satisfy the programme eligibility criteria may, subject to the approval of the Programme Coordinator, be permitted to take individual modules, as part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and be provided with a relevant transcript of marks.

Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering

College of Medicine and Health

School of Medicine

Department of General Practice

As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), CPD modules in Primary Care are now offered by the Department of General Practice.

Entry Requirements
The Department of General Practice Continuing Professional Development modules are open to registered health care professionals in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Allied Health care disciplines or applicants who hold a relevant primary degree. Applicants must provide evidence of current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body (for example, the Irish Medical Council, the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (active registration) and the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland). Applicants not registered with one of the above professional bodies must provide evidence of a level 8 qualification in a relevant health care discipline.

Candidates whose first language is not English must have a minimum of IELTS 6.5 with scores in no individual sections less than 6.0.

All applicants are required to complete an application form and provide evidence of either current professional registration or primary degree.

The following modules are available:

GP5100 Diabetes in Primary Care (10 credits)
GP5101 Cardiovascular Disease in Primary Care (Blended learning module) (10 credits)

The modules consist of twelve weeks’ worth of online distance learning units, supported by two face to face study days.
These modules will run annually only when minimum recruitment targets are met.

Department of Epidemiology and Public Health

As part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), modules available in the MSc in Occupational Health, the MSc in Occupational Health (Online) and the Master of Public Health (Online) are offered as CPD modules in the College of Medicine and Health.

These modules are available for external individuals to attend as independent modules, having as target groups essentially: Health and Safety Professionals in Industry and Healthcare, Occupational Health Nurses, Self-employed Occupational Health and Safety Consultants, Human Resources Managers among others. These modules are also available to Healthcare Professionals - doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, pharmacists, allied healthcare professionals among others.

Candidates who satisfy the programme eligibility criteria may, subject to the approval of the Programme Director/Coordinator, be permitted to take the individual modules referred below, as part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and be provided with a relevant transcript of marks.

Entry requirements (for MSc Occupational Health and MSc Occupational Health (Online) modules):

Candidates for the following CPD modules must normally meet one of the following criteria:

1. A Level 8 honours primary degree (minimum second class honours, grade 2) in a relevant area, for example health-related (Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, Environmental Health, Psychology/Behavioural Science, Physiotherapy); Engineering and Human Resource Management and relevant professional experience¹ or work placement in an associated Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare area.

OR

2. A minimum of a Diploma/Higher Diploma in Occupational Safety, Health and Welfare (minimum Second Class Honours, Grade 1), from UCC, or an equivalent qualification² from another Institution (Level 8 Diploma, minimum Second Class Honours, Grade 1) and a minimum of two years relevant professional work experience¹ in an area associated with Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare;

OR

3. Applicants with a minimum of three years professional work experience in an associated area¹ of Occupational Health, Safety and Welfare will be invited for interview to satisfy the selection committee of their suitability for the programme.

¹ Relevant professional work experience, job title examples:  Health and Safety Officers/Advisors/Managers/Coordinators; Environmental Safety Officers/Managers; Safety Engineers, Health Promotion Officers; HR Officers/Managers; Occupational Health Nurses, Health Scientists, Professional Trainers, Health and Safety Consultants.

² Level 8, Examples: Diploma/Higher Diploma/International Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety; Diploma in Environment Management, Diploma in Health Promotion, Diploma in Learning, Development and Work-based Training.

A student, if admitted to the course, who successfully completes and passes a module under CPD will be eligible for exemptions if he/she is admitted to the MSc in Occupational Health or the MSc in Occupational Health (Online) within five years from the date of successful completion of the module (and subject to the module being offered on the MSc in Occupational Health or the MSc in Occupational Health (Online))

Entry requirements (for modules for the Master of Public Health (Online):

Prospective students must satisfy the following:

• Students accepted on the course would normally be expected to hold an Honours primary degree in a relevant subject (minimum Second Class Honours) or an Honours primary degree in any discipline (minimum Second Class Honours) and either possess a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or show evidence of at least two years work experience in a relevant field;
• Decisions will be based on qualifications and quality of the application.

Note: In exceptional circumstances, applicants without a primary degree may be recommended for entry to the programme following an interview and review of their individual qualifications and experience by the course committee. Admission of such applicants will be subject to the approval of the College of Medicine and Health Executive Committee.

Technical Entry Requirements (Online):
To access and interact with the course content, assignments and assessments etc. students will require access to at least a PC/ Laptop running Windows 7 or later and Mac OSX 10.7.4. Common plug-ins such as Microsoft Silverlight, Java and Flash will also be required. Students must have access to MS Office or an equivalent suite of applications such as Libre Office. They must also have access to a modern standards compliant web browser. UCC recommends either Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
To engage productively and successfully with the content, basic technical computer skills such as familiarity with word processing, web browsing and email - recommended.

A student, if admitted to the course, who successfully completes and passes a module under CPD will be eligible for exemptions if he/she is admitted to the Master of Public Health within five years from the date of successful completion of the module (and subject to the module being offered on the Online MPH and/or campus-based MPH courses).

These modules will be available biennially from September 2012. Candidates should contact the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health in relation to the modules available in any given year.

Palliative Care

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have:

1. A primary degree or an equivalent experience in a relevant health care discipline to be approved by the College of Medicine & Health;
2. Registration or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional healthcare registration body in Ireland;
3. Minimum of one year post qualification experience in healthcare provision.

All applicants are required to complete an application form and provide evidence of current professional registration.

The following module is available:
IP5001 Holistic Approach to Palliative Care (5 credits)

Older Person Rehabilitation
The Continuing Professional Development Modules in Older Person Rehabilitation are designed to provide students from a range of different professional backgrounds with interdisciplinary learning in an area of Older Person Rehabilitation. Classes are held on in one or two week day blocks, including some weekend days. A ten-credit module equates to 200-250 hours of learning, including approximately 50 hours of structured contact time.

Entry Requirements
Candidates must have:

1. A primary degree or an equivalent experience in a relevant health care discipline to be approved by the College of Medicine & Health;
2. Registration or eligibility for registration with the appropriate professional healthcare registration body in Ireland;
3. Ideally candidates should have practical experience in their area of qualifications of at least one year post-registration.

All applicants are required to complete an application form and provide evidence of current professional registration. Garda/Police Clearance may be a requirement for certain modules.

Students may take one or more modules (to a maximum of twenty credits per year) from the following:

Awarding of Postgraduate Certificate:
If CPD modules in Older Person Rehabilitation have been completed to the value of 30 ECTS credits, within three years of first registration, including module CG6009, the student may be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Certificate in Older Person Rehabilitation.

Awarding of Postgraduate Diploma:
If CPD modules in Older Person Rehabilitation have been completed to the value of 60 ECTS credits, within five years of first registration, including modules CG6002, CG6009 and CG6010, the student may be eligible for the award of Postgraduate Diploma in Older Person Rehabilitation.

School of Nursing and Midwifery

Entry Requirements

The Continuing Professional Development modules in Nursing and Midwifery are open to registered health care professionals in Nursing, Midwifery, Medicine, and Clinical Therapies or other allied disciplines. Some modules are open to registered nurses/midwives only (indicated below beside individual modules).

Applicants who are practising health care professionals must provide evidence of current registration with the relevant professional regulatory body (e.g. the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (active registration), the Irish Medical Council, the Health & Social Care Professions Council (or equivalent regulatory body for pharmacists, occupational therapist, podiatrists, speech and language therapists etc.)) Applicants from allied disciplines must provide evidence of professional certification.

Applicants who are under 23 years of age must satisfy the minimum entry requirements as for the Degrees in Nursing or Midwifery, as set out here

Admission to the module(s) will be subject to internal university approval processes on the recommendation of the Head of School.

Applicants for Nursing and Midwifery CPD modules who do not hold an up-to-date IELTS certificate showing the requisite Academic Board approved CM&H scores must demonstrate evidence of appropriate work experience within an English language environment for at least the previous 2 years.

NU6116 Advanced Practice in Nursing (10 Credits) - specific entry criteria:
Applicants must have a minimum of 7 years post-registration experience. The required experience must have been gained within the past 8 years with at least 5 years in the area in which advanced nursing practice is being pursued. In addition, applicants must: (i) demonstrate continuous professional development and have completed a Master's degree; (ii) provide evidence of support from their employer and a completed Site Self-Declaration Form, signed by the Director of Nursing/Midwifery/Public Health/ authorised Nurse Manager; (iii) provide nomination and confirmation of a designated medical practitioner mentor/and or Advanced Nurse Practitioner mentor (completed Site Self-Declaration Form, signed by the Medical Practitioner/Advanced Nurse Practitioner Mentor) who will provide the student with supervision, support and learning opportunities including opportunities to practice under supervision to gain the required competencies and clinical competence to practice at an advanced level in nursing. Applicants must contact their Director of Nursing/Midwifery/Public Health/authorised Nurse Manager to discuss the identified need for advanced nursing practice in his/her practice area/organisation.

*** Applicants for MH6099, MH6112, MH6014 and MH6016 must satisfy the following:
Normally hold a Honours primary degree (minimum of a Second Class Honours Grade I):

• in a relevant subject (e.g. nursing, medicine, pharmacy, clinical therapies, philosophy, law, theology, social sciences)
  OR
• in any discipline and either possess a postgraduate qualification in a relevant field or show evidence of at least two years' work experience in a relevant field.

**** Applicants for NU6119, MH6014, MH6121 and MH6016
Applicants must be practising professionals (Nursing, Medicine, Social Work, Occupational Therapy, Speech and Language Therapy, Education or other allied disciplines) with registration with the relevant professional regulatory body. Applicants for MH6014 must have achieved a pass result in a postgraduate research methods module equivalent to NU6005 (10 credits). In addition applicants for MH6121 must provide a 250 word statement as to how this module will be useful in their work.

Applicants must be registered with the relevant professional accreditation authority and must provide proof of this registration (via professional registration number which can be verified) and a birth certificate or valid passport in order to register.

• They must be registered with the professional accreditation authority in the country in which they are practising;
• Ideally candidates should have practical experience in their area of qualifications of at least two years post-registration;
• All candidates will be required to have full access to computer and internet facilities and to be computer literate;
•  Candidates must be employed in a healthcare setting.
• In some exceptional circumstances candidates, by virtue of their training and experience may, at the discretion of the Programme Director and the Head of School, be deemed suitable for entry to the degree.

Entry Requirements
As per MSc (Pharmaceutical Technology and Quality Systems).
(Pathway I)
All candidates must be approved by the programme committee within the School of Pharmacy. Applicants may be short listed for interview.

• A candidate must have obtained at least a Second Class Honours primary degree in a relevant science discipline (NFQ level 8) which has been approved by the programme committee (e.g. pharmacy, chemistry or the biological sciences);
• Candidates must be currently employed in a relevant pharmaceutical sector (ideally greater than two years experience) and for the duration of the programme;
• Consideration may be given to other applicants with suitable equivalent professional qualifications and significant industrial experience (greater than 5 years relevant experience in the pharmaceutical industry).

*Note: Candidates who successfully complete this programme and wish to become a QP must apply to the HPRA to become registered as a QP and should also note the following:

• They must also have an appropriate primary degree that is considered by the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) to meet the specific requirements for primary qualifications listed in article 49 of 2001/83/EC (e.g. chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry and technology, biology);
• They must provide evidence to the Health Products Regulatory Authority (HPRA) that they ‘have acquired practical experience over at least two years, in one or more undertakings which are authorized to manufacture medicinal products, in the activities of qualitative analysis of medicinal products, of quantitative analysis of active substances and of testing and checking necessary to ensure the quality of medicinal products’.
