MEngSc (PHARMACEUTICAL AND BIOPHARMACEUTICAL ENGINEERING)

NFQ Level 9, Major Award

The MEngSc (Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering) is a part-time programme running for a minimum of 24 months (maximum 60 months) from the date of first registration for the programme.

Candidates must have a BE (Hons) or BEng (Hons) Degree or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum grade 2H2, or a level 8 BSc degree, with a minimum grade 2H2, where the BSc graduate has a recognised qualification in Process or Chemical Engineering (e.g. the Diploma in Process and Chemical Engineering at UCC or equivalent). However, candidates with equivalent academic qualifications and suitable experience may be accepted subject to the approval of College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. In all cases, the course of study for each candidate must be approved by the Programme Co-ordinator.

Candidates, for whom English is not their primary language, should possess an IELTS of 6.5 (or TOEFL equivalent) with no less than 6.0 in each individual category.

In Part I students take modules to the value of 60 credits. Taught modules will be offered on a cyclical basis as detailed below. Part II consists of a Dissertation to the value of 30 credits. The choice of modules is subject to the approval of the Programme Coordinator.

Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering
Students who pass all modules in Part I but fail to achieve the requisite grade of 50% across the taught modules will be eligible for the award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering. A candidate who passes Part I of the programme and who does not wish to proceed to Part II, may opt to be conferred with a Postgraduate Diploma in Pharmaceutical and Biopharmaceutical Engineering.

Individual Modules
Candidates who satisfy the programme eligibility criteria may, subject to the approval of the Programme Coordinator, be permitted to take individual modules, as part of UCC's commitment to Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and be provided with a relevant transcript of marks.
