The MSc in International Public Policy and Diplomacy may be taken full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme. The taught element of the programme runs from early September to the end of March.

Students take 90 credits as follows:

Part 1 (60 credits) consists of:

Part 2 (30 credits) consists of:

• EITHER GV6013 Work-based Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (30 credits)

Students studying for the degree full-time take all modules in one year.

Students studying for the degree part-time take the programme as follows:

• Year 1 (35 credits): GV6010 (5 credits); GV6011 (5 credits); HI6035 (10 credits); LW6566 (5 credits) and electives to the value of 10 credits.
• Year 2 (55 credits): FE6015 (5 credits); GV6012 (5 credits); LW6567 (5 credits) and electives to the value of 10 credits plus EITHER GV6013 (30 credits) OR GV6014 (30 credits).

From early April to the end of August, students will either undertake a Work-based Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6013) or a Research Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6014) to the value of 30 credits. The dissertation is submitted in September. Those undertaking a Work-based Dissertation in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (GV6013) must also submit a Placement Practice Report.

Postgraduate Diploma in International Public Policy and Diplomacy (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
Students who successfully achieve the pass standard in Part 1 may opt not to proceed to Part 2 and may opt instead to be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in International Public Policy and Diplomacy. Students who pass all taught modules in Part I (60 credits) and who fail the dissertation or fail to submit the dissertation will exit with a Postgraduate Diploma in International Publilc Policy and Diplomacy.
