This is a 4-year teacher training degree, which will qualify second level teachers of Irish/Gaeilge and one other subject selected from Mathematical Studies, French, German, Italian or Spanish.

Teaching Council Language Proficiency Requirements
The Teaching Council requires all language students to attain a language proficiency level of B2.2 on the CEFR Language Competency Framework in order to be registered to teach languages. Evidence of this competency is assessed and certified on an individual basis by the Department of Gaeilge, French, German, Italian or Spanish (where students will need to attain a mark of 60% or higher in language modules for this to be issued) and is not guaranteed by passing individual modules.

Note: The Teaching Council of Ireland requires aspiring language teachers registering with them to have achieved a language competency equivalent to B.2.2 CEFR (60% or higher). Additional supports may be offered by some modern language departments as available and on the basis of current departmental infrastructure. Where students have not achieved the required level of language competency in Irish/Gaeilge in Third Year (60% or higher in the summer examinations for GA3035 and GA3036), they will be afforded the opportunity to do so during Fourth Year through an 'Advanced Plus' level Irish Language Evening Course, not-for-credit.
