MAO

Regulations
A candidate who has obtained the degrees of MB, BCh, BAO from the National University of Ireland, or a non-NUI graduate involved in research in a recognised UCC teaching hospital, shall be eligible to obtain the degree of MAO under the following conditions:

1. A period of not less than five years shall have elapsed from the time the candidate obtained the degrees of MB, BCh, BAO, not less than four years of which shall have been spent in the practice of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at a level approved by the college.

2. The candidate must pass a preliminary clinical examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Exemption from this examination may be granted if the College/Faculty considers that the candidate holds a suitable senior obstetrical and gynaecological qualification acquired by examination.

3. The candidate must present a thesis, the work for which has been carried out over a period of not less than one year in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in the University under the direction of the Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The College/Faculty may approve of the work being carried out elsewhere.

4. Permission to enter for the degree must be obtained from the Graduate Studies Committee, at least twelve months before presentation of the thesis for examination.

5. The thesis may be examined either in summer or in winter. Six copies must be presented to the Deputy President and Registrar not later than two months prior to the proposed date of examination.
