The Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainability in Enterprise consists of 30 credits studied over 8 months (part-time) delivered online.

The MSc in Sustainability in Enterprise consists of 90 credits studied over 24 months (part-time) delivered online.

All students will be registered for the Postgraduate Certificate in Sustainability in Enterprise in the first instance and will be conferred with the Postgraduate Certificate upon passing Year 1. For the 2021/22 intake the Postgraduate Certificate will commence in November 2021.

Year 1
Postgraduate Certificate

Students take 30 credits as follows:

CE6045 Introduction to Sustainability and the Natural Environment (10 credits)
CE6046 Introduction to Sustainable Enterprise (10 credits)
CE6047 Systems Thinking in Environmental Sustainability (10 credits)

Progression to the MSc in Sustainability in Enterprise (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
A student who subsequently wishes to progress to the MSc in Sustainability in Enterprise must complete the programme within 3 academic years from the date of successful completion of the Postgraduate Certificate Examinations.

MSc
In Part I, students will study taught modules to the value of 60 credits. Part II consists of a Dissertation in Sustainability in Enterprise (CE6051) to the value of 30 credits, which is completed over the summer months (Semester 3).

Year 2
Part I

Students take 60 credits as follows:

30 credits from the Postgraduate Certificate completed in Year 1
and the following 60 credits in Year 2:

CE6048 Responsible Management for Sustainable Enterprise (10 credits)
CE6049 Decarbonisation and Pathways to Net Zero (10 credits)
CE6050 Applied Research Methods in Sustainability in Enterprise (10 credits)

Part II

Students take 30 credits as follows:

CE6051 Dissertation in Sustainability in Enterprise (30 credits)

Exit award: Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainability in Enterprise (NFQ Level 9, Major award)
Students who pass each taught module in Part I (60 credits) independently but fail, at the first attempt, to achieve a 50% aggregate mark in taught modules in Year 2 (30 credits) and 50% in CE6050, or who do not wish to complete the Dissertation (Part II) will exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Diploma in Sustainability in Enterprise.

On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  • Articulate key concepts related to sustainability, sustainability frameworks and sustainable enterprise.
  • Demonstrate a systematic understanding and critical awareness of current problems, case studies and new insights informed by the forefront of sustainability research, leadership and practice in a range of business contexts.
  • Select from complex and advanced knowledge across science, business and engineering disciplines to advance new sustainability skills to a high level, including novel and emerging techniques.
  • Act to embed sustainability in a wide and often unpredictable variety of professional and organisational levels and ill-defined contexts.
