The MSc (Economics) may be taken full-time over 12 months or part-time over 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

The MSc (Economics) programme is in two parts as set out below. Part I consists of a combination of examination and coursework in a set of specified taught modules to the value of 60 credits. Part II consists of a dissertation to the value of 30 credits.

Full-time:
Students take 90 credits as follows:

Part I
EC6600 Econometrics: Theory and Applications 1 (5 credits)
EC6601 Econometrics: Theory and Applications 2 (5 credits)
EC6604 Microeconomics 1 (5 credits)
EC6605 Microeconomics 2 (5 credits)
EC6606 Macroeconomics 1 (5 credits)
EC6607 Macroeconomics 2 (5 credits)
EC6666 Research Methods and Professional Development (10 credits)

Students take 20 credits from among the following 40 credits of electives:
EC6010 Innovation and Enterprise (5 credits)
EC6045 Asset Pricing (5 credits)
EC6066 The Business of Health Care 1 (5 credits)
EC6608 Behavioural Economics (5 credits)
EC6609 Spatial and Regional Economic Analysis (5 credits)
EC6622 Business Relationships and Business Strategy (5 credits)
EC6628 Analysis of Business Survey Data (5 credits)
PH6054 Philosophy of Economics (5 credits)

Part II
EC6667 Dissertation in Economics (30 credits)

Students must present the dissertation by the Department deadline in the academic year following completion of Part I.

Postgraduate Diploma in Economics exit award (NFQ Level 9, Major award)
Students who pass Part I may choose not to proceed to Part II and may exit the programme and be awarded the Postgraduate Diploma in Economics.
