Higher Diploma in Languages and Global Software Business

The Higher Diploma in Languages and Global Software Business is a full-time programme running for 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

Students take 60 credits in total.

IS5003 Applied Industry Project (10 credits)
IS5004 IT Solution Selling and Digital Business (5 credits)
IS5005 Technology and Solutions for the Sales Process and the Management of Global Business (5 credits)

Students choose one language module to the value of 10 credits from the list below. The language chosen must be consistent with the language studied in the primary degree. Where more than one language was studied to degree level, students must choose the language in which they have a 2.1 or more.

Programme Learning Outcomes for Higher Diploma in Languages and Global Software Business (NFQ Level 8, Major Award)
On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:

  • Demonstrate the capacity to integrate the target language into Software business demands
  • Describe and apply core skills in the sale of IT solutions and related customer relationship management
  • Define core IT Terms and concepts and apply these to IT support and localisation and its requirement for cross-cultural translation of goods and services
  • Elicit and identify customer requirements and manage project work and deliver business value
  • Describe and apply core terms and concepts in the area of intercultural communication
  • Demonstrate the capacity to comprehend the content and structure of texts written in the target language and to put them to use within a Software business environment
  • Demonstrate a capacity to undertake independent research in the area of sales and IT solutions in the target language
  • Express opinions and sustain a cogent discussion in relation to IT Sales and support with reasonable fluency and accuracy.
  • Demonstrate a capacity to work within the IT Sales and support sector through engagement with industry leaders and stakeholders and through industry-based problem solving.
