*Law (Pathways) offers programmes leading to the award of the following Honours Bachelor of Civil Law (BCL) (Hons) Degrees:

At the end of First Year, Students can choose between three pathways: either to graduate in three years with a BCL, switch to the BCL (International)*, an exciting and dynamic four-year degree where students have the opportunity to study at a law school outside Ireland or move to the BCL (Clinical)*, also a four-year course, which incorporates a unique opportunity to work within the legal system and facilitates students' development of professional, organisational and interpersonal workplace skills.
*Note: Places on the BCL (International) are automatically available to students achieving at least Second Class Honours Grade Two in their First Year Examinations; otherwise it is subject to interview and the availability of places. Transfer to the BCL (Clinical) is dependant on students achieving at least Second Class Honours Grade Two in their First Year Examinations and is subject to a competitive process which will include an interview.

WORKLOAD GUIDELINE
Where a programme contains elective modules it is recommended that students do not take any more than 40 credits in any semester. Students are therefore advised to choose their modules so that the workload is evenly spread throughout the year.

There are two possible paths in Third Year of BCL (Clinical). Students in this programme must complete either one or two approved clinical work placements, either nationally or abroad, with an appropriate legal body or organisation. Each placement is of 12 weeks duration and must be completed on a full-time basis. Registration for the Final Year BCL (Hons) (Clinical) programme at UCC must directly follow Third Year.

The choice of courses to be followed abroad is to be made in consultation with the Dean of the School of Law in UCC or his/her delegate. Registration for the Fourth Year BCL (Hons) (International) programme in UCC must directly follow the year spent abroad.

PATH 2:
Students must attend an approved European or North American or Chinese university law school on a full-time basis for one semester in the academic year between the completion of the Second University Examination in BCL (Hons) (International) and the commencement of the Final Year BCL (Hons) (International). The choice of courses to be followed abroad is to be made in consultation with the Dean of the School of Law in UCC or his/her delegate.
