PEER ASSISTED LEARNING (PAL)

Note: Every effort has been made to ensure that the programme and module content as described in the University's Calendar and Book of Modules for the 2020-21 academic year are accurate. However, due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, no guarantee is given that programme/module content, delivery and assessment may not be altered, cancelled, replaced, augmented or otherwise amended. Any changes will ensure the same competencies and Learning Outcomes are met. Programme and/or Module Coordinators will communicate any such changes to students.

The Peer Assisted Learning (PAL) is a student-to-student support scheme for First Year students taking Chemistry and First Year students taking Physics in the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science. This initiative involves two modules as follows: CM0003 (5 credits) and PY0003 (5 credits). These modules are intended to give recognition to the time and effort committed to the PAL initiative and the relevant module is credited to students participating in the PAL scheme as follows:
CM0003 is for PAL Leaders, i.e. Second or Third Year students who have passed First Year Chemistry.
PY0003 is for PAL Leaders. PY0003 is delivered over Second and Third Year to students who have passed First Science Physics, but students are only formally registered in 3rd Year and any work completed during the module is only formally assessed in Third Year.

Note: These modules do not form part of the credit assessment of any degree programme but will be listed on the student's academic transcript subject to satisfactory completion of the module.

Students wishing to participate in this scheme should Carol Veiga (carol.veiga@ucc.ie) or call in person to the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science Office - Block E, Level 3, Food Science Building (on right hand side at the end of the footbridge linking the Kane and Food Science Building)

Module descriptions are contained in the Book of Modules, 2020/2021.
