The MA in Global Gallery Studies at University College Cork is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time taught masters (NFQ, Level 9) which aims to prepare postgraduates for various careers in the gallery sector and other fine art institutions in Ireland and internationally. Directed by History of Art in association with The Glucksman (UCC’s award winning on campus gallery) and Digital Arts and Humanities, UCC, the programme will offer an innovative blend of theory and real-world practice comprised of the history, theories and contemporary practices of the gallery in a global context.
A candidate for this MA programme must normally hold an honours Bachelor degree, Second Class Honours Grade I (or equivalent), in Arts and Humanities or equivalent international qualification.
Candidates who hold a Bachelor degree with a Second Class Honours Grade II (or equivalent) may also be considered subject to review by MA in Global Gallery Studies selection committee.
As part of the application process candidates must submit a statement of purpose (500 words) acceptable to the MA in Global Gallery Studies selection committee, detailing their interest in the programme, and their particular research interests and methodologies to date, and their future professional goals.
In exceptional circumstances, and subject to the approval of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, candidates who hold a primary degree other than Second Class Honours, and who demonstrate a high level of significant and relevant experience, may also be eligible for entry to the programme. Admission of such applicants will be subject to the approval of the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences.
All candidates are subject to interview and must satisfy a selection committee.
Student Garda Vetting
HA6027 Project-led Gallery Internship (Semester 3)
During semesters 1 and 2, under the supervision of the programme coordinator, students will prepare for their semester 3 internships; student garda vetting will be explored during this time. The National Vetting Bureau (Children and Vulnerable Persons) Acts 2012 to 2016 (the Acts) provide a statutory basis for mandatory vetting of persons who wish to undertake a work placement and/or activities that bring them into contact with children and/or vulnerable adults. Vetting must be obtained before the commencement of the internship. The vetting process will take 6 weeks+, therefore students are advised to prepare and submit their paperwork in good time.
