The BA (Hons) (Theatre and Performative Practices) is a three-year degree programme. Applicants for this programme must pass a Theatre and Performative Practices Entrance Test, as well as fulfilling the minimum entry requirements detailed here). Teaching at Theatre is research-led and is informed by a practice-based approach to teaching and the complementary relationship between theory and practice. Students should note this is not a vocational training programme. Emphasis is placed on learning through doing, that is, through performative practices, where thinking and making are continually integrated.
Theatre and Performative Practices - Single and Joint Honours
Students taking the BA (Hons) (Theatre and Performative Practices) programme may take the Single Honours option consisting of 50 credits in Theatre and Performative Practices and 10 credits in another Arts subjects in each year, or the Joint Honours option consisting of 30 credits in Theatre and Performative Practices and 30 credits in another Arts subjects in each year.
Places for Single Honours Theatre and Performative Practices are limited and will be allocated based on (1) first year assessment from Year 1, and (2) further discussion/interview with department as necessary.
Students who wish to take Theatre and Performative Practices with Music must first apply through the CAO for CK112. In addition to the normal CAO requirements, such students must also satisfy the Head of Department, Music and the College that they are capable of successfully completing the Music component of the programme by taking and passing a Music test. Students taking Theatre and Performative Practices with Music take 30 credits of Music and 30 credits of Theatre and Performative Practices in each year.
To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) (Theatre and Performative Practices) degree a student will be required to have achieved 180 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of First, Second, and Third Arts (Theatre and Performative Practices). A student may not register for more than 60 credits in one year.

The BA (Hons) (Theatre and Performative Practices - International) is a
four-year programme, taking the 30 or 50 credit option (single or joint honours) in
Theatre and Performative Practices, along with one other Arts subject, which
enables students of Theatre and Performative Practices to study for one year
(i.e. Third Year) in an approved University outside Ireland.
In First Arts (Theatre and Performative Practices) students take Theatre and Performative Practices (30 credits) together with two other subjects (15 credits each) from those listed below. It is recommended that at least one of these subjects be a language/literature subject. To avoid timetable clashes no more than one subject may be chosen from any separate group below. Students should also note when making subject choices that not all subjects can be taken as a 10 credit or a 30 credit option in Second and Third Arts.

Changes to First Year subjects will be allowed, provided subject prerequisites are met, up to four weeks after the start of Semester 1, i.e. until Friday, 23 October 2020. The online facility for making changes to subjects will only be open for the first two weeks of Semester 1, i.e. until Friday, 9 October 2020. Subsequent changes up until Friday, 23 October 2020 must be processed manually through the Student Records and Examinations Office, West Wing, UCC. Changes for FETAC and Mature students and any other student not presenting with a Leaving Certificate must be processed manually through the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences by completing the 'Student Request Form'.

Three Year Rule
Students must pass the First University Examination in Arts (Theatre and Performative Practices) within three academic years from the date of
first registration for First Year. Failure to comply with this rule
means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further with
his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the College
of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, only for very serious
reasons.
No student may register for Second Arts (Theatre and Performative Practices) until he/she has passed the First University Examination in Arts (Theatre and Performative Practices). The selection of any module is conditional on the Professor or Lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that a student is capable of profiting by attendance thereat. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.
In Second Arts, Theatre and Performative Practices students have the option of taking pathways in either Joint Honours Theatre and Performative Practices or Single Honours Theatre and Performative Practices as follows:
Joint Honours Theatre and Performative Practices: Students take 30 credits of Theatre and Performative Practices and take the remaining credits (to total 60 each year) in one other subject continued from First Year. Note: Students taking Theatre and Performative Practices with Music combine 30 credits of Theatre and Performative Practices with 30 credits of Music modules, as taken by Second Year students on the Arts-Music (CK104) programme (see here).
Single Honours Theatre and Performative Practices: 50 credit subject: a limited number of places (Minimum 6) will be offered to students wishing to register for 50 credits in Second Year in 2020/21 and Final Year in 2021/22. Places for Single Honours Theatre and Performative Practices will be allocated based on (1) first year assessment from Year 1, and (2) on students’ statement of intent and their proven commitment to the discipline of Theatre and Performative Practices.
Along with 50 credits in Theatre and Performative Practices, Single Honours students take the remaining credits (to total 10 each year) in one other subject continued from First Year.
Internship Option: Between Year 2 and Year 3 students registering for either Joint or Single Honours have the option of completing a work placement within an established/professional arts organisation (DR3001 – 5 credits) amounting to 4 weeks full-time, or equivalent, with an approved theatre company, performing arts organisation or theatre performance group in Ireland or abroad. Assessment for DR3001 will be based on satisfactory completion of the internship and on a presentation and portfolio of documentation completed during the first Semester of Third Year (see module description for further details). Students will be responsible for arranging the internship, in consultation with academic staff and for any/all costs incurred arising from the Practical Internship/Work Placement.
Change of Module
Students wishing to register a change of module must do so via the Student
Portal no later than two weeks after the start of each
Semester, i.e. by Friday, 9 October 2020 (Semester 1) or Friday, 5 February 2021 (Semester 2). Semester 1 modules cannot be changed in Semester 2.
