PX3000 Undergraduate Work-Experience Recognition (for the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences) is a 5-credit final-year module designed to provide retrospective university recognition of the employability skills and professional work experience acquired by students of CACSSS during the course of their studies. Students are advised to avail of the services provided by Careers when planning their work placement. This module is taken in addition to students’ 60-credit workload for the year. Students wishing to select this module should ensure that there is no conflict with the timetable for their main programme of study. There is no fee for this module.

Attendance at, and examination in, this module will be recorded on the student transcript subject to satisfactory completion of the module. The placements can take place at any point during a student’s undergraduate studies at UCC up to and including the first Semester of final year. While students may complete the placement at any point up to the end of semester 1 of their final year, students register for the module in the second semester of final year, submitting the documentation specified in the module description in the Book of Modules for retrospective accreditation no later than the last day of the teaching period of semester 2.

The module is available only to students in the final year of their programme taking one of the degree programmes offered by CACSSS. Work placements completed for other modules and/or for credit cannot be considered.

Eligible students will receive an email to their official UCC email accounts when the module is open for registration.

Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

It is only possible to take this module once. It is not possible to take this module if the student has already taken PX3001.

PX3001 Professional Work Experience (CACSSS)
PX3001 is an accredited professional work experience module that allows CACSSS students to explore and develop their career interests. The optional module may be taken in any year of the undergraduate degree. Preparatory training is offered by UCC Career Services and will include advice on interview skills and CV writing.

All students in CK101 Arts, and other CACSSS degrees that do not have formal work placements. Students can participate in PX3001 in any year of their degree programme.

Students will arrange professional work experience or an internship with a minimum of 70 hours of engagement in the workplace. The module is assessed by an academic mentor through an e-portfolio that records and reflects on the work experience.

Students will participate in a series of workshops to prepare for the workplace experience. They will have the support of an Academic Mentor from their own area of studies. Students will also require a mentor within the workplace. UCC Careers Office will help students produce a professional CV and prepare for the job interview.

PX3001 is a 5 credit module which is not included for progression to the subsequent year and is not counted toward the final degree award. The result obtained in PX3001 will be recorded on the student's transcript. This module is designed to prepare students for transition to the workplace on graduation. This module allows students to explore their interest in a particular area of professional employment, while also acquiring experience and skills that will support their career development.
