To be admitted to the University Examination in Irish Traditional
Music, students must have satisfactorily attended, for at least a full
academic year, prescribed modules to the value of 60
credits as follows:
EITHER MU3010 OR MU3030 (10 credits)
plus
three 10-credit modules, of which at least two should be on topics relating to Irish Traditional Music and the discipline of ethnomusicology, as prescribed by the Department of Music in the year in question;
plus
three of the following 5 credit modules (15 credits in total):

subject to the approval of the Department of Music.

Full details of regulations governing Examinations for each programme
will be contained in the Marks and Standards 2020/2021 Book, and for
each module in the Book of Modules, 2020/2021.
Three Year Rule
Students must pass the University Examination in Irish Traditional
Music within three academic years from the date of first registration
for the Diploma in Irish Traditional Music. Failure to comply with
this rule means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further
with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the
College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, only for very
serious reasons.
