WORKLOAD GUIDELINE
Where a programme contains elective modules it is recommended that students do not take any more than 40 credits in any semester. Students are therefore advised to choose their modules so that the workload is evenly spread throughout the year.

First Year consists of core modules to the value of 60 credits (35 credits Law; 25 credits Business). In order to be admitted to the First University Examination in Law and Business, a student must have satisfactorily attended prescribed modules to the value of 60 credits as follows:

¹ LW1161 and LW1163 comprise the same module in English (LW1161) and as Gaeilge (LW1163). Students may register for either LW1161 or LW1163 but not both. Three Year Rule
Students must pass the First University Examination in Law and Business within three academic years from the date of first registration for First Year. Failure to comply with this rule would mean that the student would be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the School of Law, only for very serious reasons.

Second Year consists of core modules to the value of 60 credits (30 credits Law; 30 credits Business). In order to be admitted to the Second University Examination in Law a student must have: (a) passed the First University Examination in Law and Business; and (b) subsequently satisfactorily attended prescribed modules to the value of 60 credits as follows:

Students who wish to take the elective module LW3407 Placement in Fourth Year must apply for a place on the module early in Semester 1 of Third Year. Selection of students for the module is made on a competitive basis. If selected, preparatory work for the placement will take place during Third Year and the placement is undertaken during the period, June to August, after the Third Year University Examination.

In order to be admitted to the BCL (Law and Business) (Hons) Degree Examination, a student must have: (a) passed the Third University Examination in Law and Business; and (b) subsequently attended in a satisfactory manner prescribed modules to the value of 60 credits as follows:
