MSc (Obstetrics and Gynaecology)

NFQ Level 9, Major Award

The MSc (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) is a part-time programme running for 18 months over two years from the date of first registration for the programme. It comprises taught modules, clinical attachments and a thesis. The 2012-2013 academic year commenced with Obstetrics. The 2013-2014 academic year commenced with Gynaecology, thus establishing a pattern that continues on a two-year cycle.

Fitness to Practise
Commencing with the 2013/2014 intake of first year students (including repeats), this programme will be subject to the University's Fitness to Practise Policy - full details may be found here.

Students take taught modules in Gynaecology to the value of 30 credits and take taught modules in Obstetrics to the value of 30 credits. Students undertake a dissertation (OG6004) to the value of 30 credits which they commence in the latter half of the first year.

Students take 90 credits as follows:

Gynaecology Year (commences in 2013-2014 and continues biennially thereafter)

Basic Gynaecology (10 credits)
OG6006 General Gynaecology (10 credits)
OG6007 Specialist Gynaecology (10 credits)

OG6004 Dissertation in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (30 credits)

Postgraduate Certificate in Gynaecology (NFQ Level 9, Minor Award)
Upon satisfactory completion of the 30 credits in Gynaecology, students may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Certificate in Gynaecology.

Postgraduate Certificate in Obstetrics (NFQ Level 9, Minor Award)
Upon satisfactory completion of the 30 credits in Obstetrics, students may opt to exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Certificate in Obstetrics.

Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology (NFQ Level 9, Major Award)
Upon satisfactory completion of the 60 credits over two years, students may opt not to complete the thesis and exit the programme and be conferred with a Postgraduate Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
