The formal application forms for transfer will be submitted by all BCL (Pathways) I students to the
School of Law Office on or before the Friday of week 10 of the teaching term in semester 2. Interviews
for transfer to BCL (Clinical) II will be held during the final week of the teaching term in semester 2.
Application will include an indication of their preferred placement organisation types and/or study
abroad institutions. Late applications are not accepted and students who do not submit an application
form by the deadline will automatically be placed in the BCL programme.
Interviews for transfer to BCL (Clinical) II will be held during the final week of the teaching term in
semester 2. Offers in respect of transfers to all three programmes will be made to students within 2
weeks of the publication of the Year I results. Acceptances of offers will be required in writing on or
before the fourth Friday of August. Candidates who have successfully applied for mitigation in respect
of their Year I exams will also be considered. For these candidates, a provisional offer will be made
which will then be finalised (or not) following the Autumn examinations.
In respect of transfers from BCL (Law and Business) I to BCL II, a student may make a transfer application to the School of Law Office on or before the Friday of week 10 of semester 2. The School of Law may, at its discretion and subject to places being available, decide to approve such a transfer application (conditional on the student successfully passing the First Year of BCL (Law and Business) and having taken appropriate modules in the First Year to meet any prerequisites). Transfers will be decided after the summer examination board or autumn board as appropriate. Candidates who have successfully applied for mitigation will also be considered.
BCL (Law and Business) I students who are granted a place on BCL II must take the core 35 modules of BCL II plus LW1153 Criminal Law (10 credits) plus 20 LW elective modules (5 credits of which will be non-degree), a total of 65 LW credits in all. Students will not be permitted to take any non-LW electives in second year.
In respect of transfers from BCL (Law and French) I to BCL II, a student may make a transfer application to the School of Law Office on or before the Friday of week 10 of semester 2. The School of Law may, at its discretion and subject to places being available, decide to approve such a transfer application (conditional on the student successfully passing the First Year of BCL (Law and French) and having taken appropriate modules in the First Year to meet any prerequisites). Transfers will be decided after the summer examination board or autumn board as appropriate. Candidates who have successfully applied for mitigation will also be considered.

Applicants must have taken 10 credits of French modules in their First Year - FR1105 Threshold French (5 credits) and FR1107 French for Reading Purposes I (5 credits) or equivalent modules. They must also have obtained at least a H3 in French in the Leaving Certificate (or equivalent), and further must have obtained a 2H2 grade overall in their first year exams at the first attempt. Students transferring into BCL (Law and French) II will be required to take 10 additional credits in BCL (Law and French) II, making a total of 70 credits, in order to make up for BCL (Law and French) modules not taken in BCL (Pathways) I. These additional modules, to be taken on a non-degree basis, are LW1101 Legal Writing and Analysis (5 credits) and FR1801 Law, Language, Literature (5 credits). In addition, in place of LW1161 Constitutional Law: Fundamental Rights (5 credits) or LW1163 Dlí Bunreachtúil: Bunchearta (5 credits), which applicants will already have taken as part of First Year of BCL (Pathways) I, applicants will be required to take one further 5 credit module from the current list of BCL (Law and French) II electives which for these students will count towards the total of 60 credits on which Pass and Progression and Honours for BCL (Law and French) II are based.

In addition, in place of LW1163 Dlí Bunreachtúil: Bunchearta (5 credits), which applicants will already have taken as part of BCL (Pathways) I, applicants will be required to take GA1030 Bunreacht na hÉireann (1937): An Leagan Gaeilge (5 credits) which for these students will count towards the total of credits on which Pass and Progression and Honours for BCL (Law and Irish) II are based.

If a place or places become available, students will be invited to make an application to the School of Law Office (with an appropriate deadline being specified in the call for applications) and, in filling the available place or places, priority will be given to applicants based on their results in BCL (Pathways) I and BCL II. In order to be eligible to transfer, the student must have taken appropriate modules in First Year and Second Year to meet the requirements of the programme, including auditing LW2213 in semester 1, and the transfer, if approved, will be subject to the student passing the Second Year of the other Law programme.
