The MA in European Development Studies is a full-time programme running for 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

To be eligible for entry to this MA, applicants should hold a Second Class Honours Grade I Degree (or equivalent) in Arts, Social Science, Commerce or Law (or the equivalent in the case of non-Irish applicants). Candidates who hold a primary degree with a Second Class Honours Grade II Degree will also be considered subject to a written expression of interest and/or interview acceptable to the Department selection committee. Prospective students may also be asked to attend an interview. Prospective applicants should contact the Department of Geography for further information.

Students take 90 credits as follows:

Part I
ES6001 European Development: Different Meanings to Different Europeans (5 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)
ES6002 Core-periphery Relationships in Europe (5 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)
ES6007 Applied Skills in Data Management (10 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)
ES6008 Research Strategies (10 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)
ES6009 Assessing Cohesion within Europe: Case Study (15 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)

Part II
ES6010 Research Dissertation in European Development Studies (45 credits) (not on offer in 2017/18)

Postgraduate Certificate in European Development Studies
Candidates who pass at least 30 credits of taught modules may opt to exit the programme and be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in European Development Studies.

• Analyse critical processes that reshape European Development at a variety of spatial scales;
• Recognise the complexities of policy formulation and implications within the European Union;

• Prepare a research proposal and complete a research driven dissertation;
• Debate and prepare oral and graphic presentations of key thematic issues within small group contexts.

On successful completion of this programme, students should be able to:
