BA (Hons) (Geography and Archaeology)* - CK107

*Commencing in 2016/17 the BA (Hons) (Geography and Archaeology) is being phased out to be replaced by BA (Hons) (Geographical and Archaeological Sciences). Students repeating in 2017/18 will follow the new curriculum here.

The BA (Hons) (Geography and Archaeology) is a three-year, full-time honours degree programme.

To be eligible for the award of the BA (Hons) (Geography and Archaeology) degree a student will be required to have achieved 180 credits by obtaining 60 credits in each of First, Second, and Third Arts (Geography and Archaeology). A student may not register for more than 60 credits in one year.

The BA (Hons) (Geography and Archaeology) (International) Pathway is a four-year programme which enables students to study abroad for a year in an approved University outside Ireland.

For 2017/18 only

No student may register for Third Arts (Geography and Archaeology) until s/he has passed the Second University Examination in Arts (Geography and Archaeology). The selection of any module is conditional on the Professor or Lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that a student is capable of profiting by attendance thereat. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.

In Third Arts (Geography and Archaeology), students take 40 credits of Geography modules and Archaeology modules plus elective modules to the value of 20 credits.

Change of Module

Students wishing to register a change of module must do so via the Student Portal or at the Student Records and Examinations Office no later than two weeks after the start of each Semester, i.e. by Friday, 22nd September 2017 (Semester 1) or Friday, 26th January 2018 (Semester 2). Semester 1 modules cannot be changed in Semester 2. No changes in registration will be allowed after these deadlines.

Programme Requirements
Students take 60 credits as follows:

Core modules (40 credits)
AR3050, AR3051, AR3053, GG3012, GG3041, GG3054 (5 credits per module)
plus
GG3006 (10 credits) or AR3030 (10 credits)

Elective Modules (20 credits)
Students select 20 credits from the following, taking two modules in Archaeology (AR) and two in Geography (GG), as timetables allow:
AR3031, AR3040, AR3045, AR3052, AR3054, AR3055, GG3001, GG3007, GG3009, GG3027, GG3037, GG3039, GG3043, GG3045, GG3048 (5 credits per module)

Three Year Rule
Students must pass the Second and Third University Examination in Arts (Geography and Archaeology) within three academic years from the date of first registration for Second and Third Year, as appropriate. Failure to comply with this rule means that the student will be ineligible to proceed further with his/her studies. Exceptions to this rule may be granted by the College of Arts, Celtic Studies and Social Sciences, only for very serious reasons.
