The MEngSc (Electrical and Electronic Engineering) offers three separate streams within a full-time programme running for 12 months (or in the case of Stream 3 within a 15 month period) or within a part-time programme running for 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme.
Candidates must have a BE (Hons) Degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering, or equivalent engineering qualification, with a minimum grade 2H1 or equivalent minimum 3.0 GPA. Decisions on eligibility will be taken by the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, subject to the approval of the College of Science, Engineering and Food Science.
Candidates from Grandes Écoles Colleges are also eligible to apply if they are studying a cognate discipline in an ENSEA or EFREI Graduate School and are eligible to enter the final year (M2) of their programme.
Students take 90 credits as follows:
Full-time
Three optional Streams are possible:
Stream 1: Coursework with Research Project (subject
to performance)
In Part I students take a minimum of 50 credits of core modules from Group One, including EE6019 Research Report, and
additional modules from Groups One and Two to the value of 10 credits. No more than 15 credits may be selected from Group One (Foundational). Students
should take no more than 40 credits in any one Semester. Part II
consists of a Research Project (EE6022) to the value of 30 credits,
completed over the summer months.
Stream 2: Coursework and Industry Placement (subject
to availability and performance)
In Part I students take a minimum of 50 credits of core modules from Group One, including EE6019 Research Report, and
additional modules from Groups One and Two to the value of 10 credits. No more than 15 credits may be selected from Group One (Foundational). Students
should take no more than 40 credits in any one Semester. Part II
consists of an Industry Placement (EE6021) to the value of 30 credits,
completed over the summer months. Where the number of available
industry placements is less than the number of applicants for such
placements, unsuccessful applicants for industry projects will have a
choice of following either Stream 1 or Stream 3.
Stream 3: Coursework only (subject to performance)
In Part I students take a minimum of 5 credits of core modules from Group One, these modules not to include EE6019
Research Report, and additional modules from Groups One and Two to the value of
10 credits. No more than 15 credits may be selected from Group One (Foundational). Students should take no more than 40 credits in any one
Semester. In Part II, students take additional modules to the value of
30 credits from Group One and Group Two in Semester 1 of the following
academic year.
The choice of modules in all three Streams is subject to the approval
of the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering.
A student is required to select either Streams 1/2 or Stream 3 when applying to enter the programme. A student who enters Streams 1/2 may elect at any time to change to Stream 3. A student who enters Stream 3, takes module EE6019 Research Report and satisfies the requirements to progress from Part I to Part II of Streams 1/2 may elect to change from Stream 3 to Stream 1 or Stream 2 (subject to availability) in Part II. As the number of industry places will be limited, a student who satisfies the performance criteria to proceed to Part II is not guaranteed an industry placement.
Part-time
The programme of study for part-time students must be approved in
advance by the Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic
Engineering.

Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Candidates who pass individual modules to the value of 60 credits in
Part I but fail to achieve the requisite average grade of 50% at the
first attempt across all modules in Part 1 will be eligible for the
award of a Postgraduate Diploma in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering. Candidates passing Part I of the programme who do not
wish to proceed to Part II may opt to be conferred with a Postgraduate
Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
