The following 5-credit modules will be available to all registered students undertaking programmes of study at UCC, whose first language is not English. Preference will be given to Erasmus students. Erasmus students may include the 5 credit module within their 60 credit prescribed workload for the year. Any students, other than Erasmus students, registered for UCC programmes of study can take these modules only outside their prescribed-credit workload for the year for their chosen programme. Students wishing to select these modules should ensure that there is no conflict with the timetable for their main programme of study. There will be no fee applicable for Erasmus students but for other students (taking it outside their prescribed programme of study) a fee will apply and they will need to contact the Language Centre for details.
LC1002 English for Academic Study (B2+ level = Upper-Intermediate plus) (5 credits)
LC1003 Advanced English for Academic Study (C1 - level = Lower advanced) (5 credits)
LC1002 and LC1003 will run during Semester 1 and will be offered again in Semester 2. The modules will run only if there is sufficient demand to fill the minimum number of places required to run the modules. Module descriptions are contained in the Book of Modules, 2016/2017.
Note: Attendance at, and examination in, these modules will be recorded on the student transcript. These modules will not contribute to the final degree award for UCC programmes of study.
Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis to Erasmus students and then to other students, but also will be offered only subject to successful completion of an assessment (adminstered by the Language Centre) to ensure that each student's English is of the standard required to complete the module.
Students wishing to register for these modules should contact the b.mcenery@ucc.ie in the first instance.
