COMPARATIVE AND WORLD LITERATURE (not on offer in 2015/16)

NFQ Level 9, Major Award

The MA in Comparative and World Literature is a full-time programme taken over 12 months or a part-time programme taken over 24 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

Students are encouraged to participate in the ERASMUS exchange programme to undertake research at European partner universities during the summer term.


To be considered for registration as an MA candidate, an applicant will normally have a primary degree in a relevant area at Second Class Honours level at least, or the equivalent.


Students take 90 credits as follows:

Part 1

Core Modules
LL6001 Methodologies of Reception and Intertextuality (10 credits)
LL6002 World Literature. Theory and Texts (10 credits)
LL6901 Research Methods (5 credits)

Elective Modules
Students select 20 credits from the following
FR6405 Myth, Heroes and Heroines from Aeschylus to Lara Croft: Tragedy, Film, Anime, Romans Graphiques (10 credits)
GE6003 Ut pictura poiesis: Literature and the Visual Arts (10 credits)
LL6003 Nostos and Nostalgia (10 credits)
LL6016 Mediterranean Cultures: Encounters (10 credits)
LL6018 Contemporary Translation Theory and Practice (10 credits)

Part II
LL6009 Research Dissertation (Languages, Literatures and Cultures) (45 credits)

Examinations

Postgraduate Certificate in Comparative and World Literature
Candidates who pass at least 30 credits of taught modules may opt to exit the programme and be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Comparative and World Literature.
