APPLIED LINGUISTICS

NFQ Level 9, Major Award

The MA in Applied Linguistics is a full-time programme taken over 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

For students commencing the programme in 2015/16 only
In order to be admitted to the MA in Applied Linguistics a candidate must have a BA (Hons) Degree in a language or equivalent degree.

For students commencing the programme from 2016/17 onwards
In order to be admitted to the MA in Applied Linguistics, a candidate must have a 2.1 BA (Hons) Degree which includes a language.

Students take 90 credits as follows:

Part I
AL6011 General Aspects of Linguistic Theory (15 credits)
AL6012 Applied Aspects of Linguistics (15 credits)
AL6013 Optional Areas of Specialisation in Applied Linguistics (15 credits)

Part II
AL6010 Dissertation in Applied Linguistics (45 credits)

Examinations

Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics
Candidates who pass at least 30 credits of taught modules may opt to exit the programme and be awarded a Postgraduate Certificate in Applied Linguistics.
