Higher Diploma in Accounting and Corporate Finance

NFQ Level 8, Major Award

The Higher Diploma in Accounting and Corporate Finance is available as a full time or part-time programme. The full-time programme runs for 9 months from the date of first registration for the programme. The part-time programme runs over two academic years (18 months). It is designed to significantly enhance the employment prospects of graduates who are seeking employment in the Accounting and Financial services areas.

Applicants should have a primary degree with a grade of at least 2H2. Graduates of any discipline will be considered, including candidates from broadly based business degrees. Candidates with equivalent educational and/or professional qualifications may also be considered as deemed appropriate by the Head of Department and the School of Business. Graduates whose degrees contain a significant element of Accounting and Finance, such as specialist Accounting degrees or Accounting majors, would not be eligible to apply.

Full-time*

Students take 50 credits as follows:

AC5003 Financial Management (10 credits)
AC5014 Principles of Cost and Management Accounting (10 credits)
AC5015 Management Accounting: Governance and Control (5 credits)
AC5016 Financial Statements, Controls & Records (10 credits)
AC5017 Financial Reporting (10 credits)
AC5018 Introduction to Business Finance (5 credits)

and 10 credits from the following:
AC2115 Introduction to Taxation (5 credits)
AC3020 Multinational Finance (5 credits)
AC4007 Taxation: Income Tax and VAT (5 credits)
IS3318 Introduction to Corporate Information Systems (5 credits)
LW1108 Introduction to the Legal System (5 credits)
LW1109 Introduction to Business Law (5 credits)
LW3316 Financial Services: Law and Regulation (5 credits)
LW3317 Banking Law (5 credits)
MG1004 Introduction to Management and Organisation (5 credits)

Notes:

*Part-time
Students taking the programme on a part-time basis will take 30 credits from the above modules in each academic year and must take the 50 compulsory credits listed above over the two academic years.
