Higher Diploma in Advanced Languages and Global Communication

NFQ Level 8, Major Award

The Higher Diploma in Advanced Languages and Global Communication is a full-time programme running for 12 months from the date of first registration for the programme.

Applicants for this programme are expected to hold a level 8 degree with a major language component or equivalent language qualification (including relevant professional qualifications and relevant accredited examinations).

All applicants whose first language is not English must have attained IELTS Level 6 or the equivalent TOEFL score.


Students take 60 credits as follows:

Core Modules (30 credits):
LL5002 Translation and Professional Communication (5 credits)
LL5003 Negotiating Knowledges in the Networked Society (10 credits)
AD5006 Work Placement Module (10 credits)

Plus one of the following:
LL5001 ICT of the Localisation Industry (5 credits) or FX3007 Seminar on Film Studies (5 credits0

Plus
20 credits from Advanced Language Skills in either French, German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese
and
10 credits from a Second Language chosen from German, Spanish, Italian or Portuguese at Beginners level. French can be taken from post-Leaving Certificate (or equivalent).
