Food Science operates a student exchange scheme with universities in most EU countries under the EU ERASMUS/SOCRATES Scheme. This scheme enables students to spend time in another member state of the European Union to conduct a research project, to study or to get work experience.
Modules
All degree programmes in Food Science are defined in terms of modules. Modules are measured in terms of credits. A module may correspond to 5, 10, 15 or 20 credits. Each year of a degree programme consists of modules to a total value of 60 credits.
Module descriptions are contained in the Book of Modules, 2015/2016.
Note: In modules which include practical work - assessed continuously, by examination, or both - candidates must satisfy the examiners in this aspect of assessment as well as in written examinations. The examiners will, where possible, take into account the work done by candidates during the year as shown by the certified records of their work. These records such as notebooks, laboratory specimens, preparations etc. must be submitted for inspection as and when requested.
Elective Modules
The right is reserved not to offer any particular elective module listed in the Regulations. An elective module can be given only if teaching staff for that module is available and the module is selected by an adequate number of students, as determined by the Head of the Department concerned. The number of students selecting certain elective modules may, with the approval of the College, be limited. Details are given under the relevant module descriptions. Students may not select modules which involve a timetable clash.
Change of Module
Students wishing to register a change of module must do so via the Student Portal or at the Student Records and Examinations Office no later than two weeks after the start of each Semester, i.e. by Friday, 18 September 2015 (Semester 1) or Friday, 22 January 2016 (Semester 2). Semester 1 modules cannot be changed in Semester 2. No changes in registration will be allowed after these deadlines.
The selection of any module by a student is conditional on the Professor or lecturer concerned and the College being satisfied that he/she is capable of profiting by attendance thereat.
The following condition applies to Language modules: the level at which a student is permitted to take a particular Language module will be determined by an assessment carried out by the Language Centre at the start of the first Semester.
